The Bangkok Design Week 2023 (BKKDW2023) under the “urbanNICEzation” concept kicked off on Saturday as part of efforts to promote the capital’s creative economy.
Events will be held across the capital until February 12 in cooperation between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Creative Economy Agency and other related agencies.
Among the highlights are events in Charoenkrung-Talat Noi, Yaowarat, Samyan-Siam, Ari-Pradipat, Phra Nakhon-Pak Khlong Talat-Nang Loeng, Wongwian Yai-Talat Phlu, Khlong San, Bang Pho, Phrom Phong and Kaset.
In an opening speech at the Grand Postal Building in Bang Rak district, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said good design can make good living possible.
He added that one of the obstacles to making Bangkok more liveable is the differences between the public and private sectors. For instance, he said, the BMA must adhere to laws and regulations, while designers are known for thinking “outside the box”.
“Hence, the public and private sectors should join hands and understand each other to make the city more liveable,” he added.
He went on to say that a capital is not made liveable by eye-catching buildings and infrastructure, but more by the hope and trust of its residents. And for this to happen, he said, designers are required.
Chadchart wrapped up the speech by saying the BMA will always be at hand to support designers in their efforts, adding that he appreciated the work done so far towards making Bangkok more liveable.
