The Culture Ministry’s Department of Religious Affairs is holding a special event at the Lan Khon Muang grounds and Wat Suthat Thepwararam to mark Makha Bucha Day.
The event was launched on Saturday, with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)’s permanent secretary Khachit Chatchawanit in attendance.
The department is holding similar events across the nation to promote Buddhism.
On the Lan Khon Muang grounds opposite Bangkok’s City Hall, the department has enshrined 99 Buddha relics for devotees to pay respect.
Relics of the 19th Supreme Patriarch, Somdet Phra Sangharaja Chao Krommaluang Vajirañāṇasaṃvara, are also enshrined there.
The department received the relics from Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Ariyavangsagatayana.
Makha Bucha, which falls on Monday this year, is celebrated on the full moon day of the third lunar month. It marks a gathering Buddha held with 1,250 of his disciples, signifying the creation of the Buddhist Sangha.
