Many bus stops in Bangkok are situated in relatively
dark locations while at some others no lighting systems are
and telephone exchange cabinets can also block the view of
approaching buses, forcing waiting passengers to risk standing
close to the footpath edges. The BMA thus set up a plan for
developing bus stops and bus shelters of different sizes at
476 locations. A pilot project was successfully implemented
at five single bus stop poles on Yaowarat and Charoen Krung
roads. Future plans target additional 114 locations in 2023, 188
locations in 2024, and 174 locations in 2025.
Safe bicycle parkings with convenient links
to other transport modes
The BMA supported and developed quality and safe bicycle
parking in Bangkok to enhance the confidence and convenience
of cyclists and to promote the use of bicycles as a feeder system
with links to the public transport systems. Additional parking racks
were provided around the entrances of Sois, bus stops, transport
hubs, and the mass transit system stations. Regular maintenance is
scheduled to ensure functionality at all times.
To date, the BMA has developed bicycle parking at
100 locations along the mass transit system routes and piers.
In the next phase, the private sector will be allowed to provide
bicycle parking and rental services under the BMA’s Bike Sharing
Project. Targeting all groups of people, the project aims to provide
them with a travel option that links them to public transport
services, reduce PM2.5 and other particulate matters that cause air
pollution, alleviate traffic congestion, and enable the private sector
to participate in the development of Bangkok and quality of life.
Disclosing information regarding transport
in Bangkok to the public
In the past, there is no systematic compilation of easy-to-
understand information about the public transport systems. Disclosed
information was not updated and the information on certain transport
modes was unavailable. The BMA thus coordinated with the Ministry
of Transport and related agencies to disclose information about
tracking of the BMA feeder service in the following four routes.
1. BTS Sanam Pao Station – Bangkok City Hall (Din Daeng)
2. ARL Lat Krabang Station – Kheha Chumchon Rom Klao
3. (Circle) MRT Bang Khun Non Station – 4 floating markets
in Taling Chan District
4. Sirindhorn Road – Educational institutions in Dusit District
