Developing occupational skills to meet
the contemporary market needs
The BMA plays a vital role in developing occupational skills
of interested people via its occupational training centers (which
provide programs focusing on developing specific professional skills
such as haircutting, cooking, and dressmaking for a long time and
remain preferred by the publicand), and 10 BMA’s vocational training
schools (which offer a broader range of programs such as electrical
and mechanical work, home economics, culinary arts, and languages.)
However, the needs in the businesss sector should be taken into
account to design programs to ensure the graduates have necessary
skills to meet the market needs.
The BMA thus added the following programs: the 54-hour Hotel
Housekeeper Program (To date, there have been 69 graduates and
they have been employed at nine hotels.), the 420-hour Care Giver
Program (launched in July 2023), the 30-hour Electric Tricycle Driving
Program, and the Pet Groomer Program which was under negotiation
for collaboration with the Thonglor International Pet Hospital and
slated for inauguration in late 2023.
The graduates from the BMA vocational training schools can
disseminate their qualifications and promote their businesses on the
website: openjob.bangkok.go.th.
Senior citizens as a bank of wisdom
Valuing people of all ages, especially the elderly who want
to continue working or pass on their knowledge and experience to
society, the BMA established a steering committee for the elderly
affairs and formulated the action plan for the elderly affairs in
Bangkok (phase 3: 2023-2027) to achieve the vision: Elderly people
have a good quality of life, enjoy life security, are self-reliant and
remain a driving force of society. The action plan consists of three
sub-plans for pre-aging preparedness, upgraded quality of life for the
elderly, and integrated management system accommodating aging
society. A database of aged people was created to match them with
appropriate jobs so that they can contribute to society and foster
