BMA Directs Urgent Flood Management and U-Turn Upgrades in Nong Khaem to Boost Drainage and Traffic Safety

On June 8, 2026, Miss Aranya Pornchaiya, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), led a senior executive delegation to inspect three critical complaint sites in Nong Khaem District. Accompanied by District Director Maneewan Srisawat, Mr. Jare Rungwilaijaroen, Head of the Governor of Bangkok Secretariat, and officials from the Governor of Bangkok Secretariat and the Public Works Department, the inspection focused on mitigating flood risks at Muban Phuttan and Muban Phongsirichai 4 on Ma Charoen Road, alongside accelerating traffic safety upgrades at the U-turn points in front of Southeast Asia University and near Soi Phetkasem 116 on Phetkasem Road. Miss Aranya emphasized that the BMA must deliver swift relief to local commuters and residents, particularly as the capital navigates its unpredictable rainy season.

To combat the severe flooding that occurs when rainfall exceeds 60 mm/hour, the Nong Khaem District Office has deployed strategic countermeasures. Because these low-lying residential areas are privately owned and sit beneath the main road level, the district has installed dedicated water pumps at village entrances and stationed emergency personnel to rapidly flush runoff into Ma Charoen Road’s drainage infrastructure and the Phasi Charoen Canal. For long-term sustainability, Miss Aranya ordered district administrators to consult with the residential communities on raising internal road levels, installing larger drainage pipes, and clearing debris from pumping station grates.

Simultaneously, the Department of Public Works is overseeing a comprehensive 120-day project to improve and construct the U-turns in front of Southeast Asia University and at Soi Phetkasem 116, contracted to K. Jirakit Co., Ltd. from May 12 to September 8, 2026. The scope includes removing old concrete curbs, installing 16 new manholes, repairing hundreds of meters of shallow curb drainage, and constructing 18 steel-grated drainage channels, alongside relocating 30 trees across both locations. The Deputy Permanent Secretary concluded by instructing contractors to strictly upgrade on-site safety measures to prevent accidents, systematically manage traffic flow, and ensure the project finishes on schedule to maximize safety for capital commuters.
