(July 18, 2026) – A high-level Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) executive delegation, led by Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Taiwhut Khankaew, conducted a comprehensive waterborne inspection of the designated routes for the upcoming royal celebration event, “The River of Life Under His Majesty’s Benevolence: Continuing the Rattanakosin Tradition”. Spanning July 24–31, 2026, at Mahakan Fort Park and canals surrounding the historic Rattanakosin Island, this major initiative is organized under His Majesty the King’s royal command and policies to honor the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 74th Birthday Anniversary on July 28, 2026. The inspection aimed to optimize public safety, infrastructure, and landscape aesthetics across the capital’s historic waterways ahead of the grand celebrations.
The waterborne inspection team mobilized from the temporary pier at Wat Benchamabophit Dusitvanaram in Dusit District, navigating along Prem Prachakorn Canal through Phadung Krung Kasem Canal, and into Saen Saep Canal to review the pier conditions at Wat Borom Niwat. The delegation then circled through Mahanak Canal into Bang Lamphu Canal and Ong Ang Canal, concluding the comprehensive logistical audit at the Mahakan Fort Park Pier in Phra Nakhon District. To ensure comprehensive readiness across all dimensions, Mr. Taiwhut instructed all responsible city offices and district authorities to accelerate inter-agency integration, specifically focusing on venue preparation, public facilitation, and stringent safety measures for both the Buddhist clergy and attending citizens. Furthermore, he mandated the immediate landscape improvement of the surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness, beauty, and orderliness, while ensuring that all temporary and permanent piers are structurally reinforced, water quality is rigorously regulated, and all floating debris, weeds, and navigation hazards are thoroughly cleared. Additionally, city officials were directed to inspect canal-side public utilities and establish close multi-sectoral integration to monitor and evaluate the situation in real time, enabling immediate resolution of any unforeseen issues to guarantee seamless and secure water transport throughout the designated routes.
A centerpiece of the grand royal celebration is the traditional canal alms-giving ceremony scheduled for July 26, 2026, which honors Thailand’s deeply rooted Buddhist traditions and riverside heritage. The event will host a procession of 225 Buddhist monks invited from 40 riverside temples spanning three critical historic canals, the Rattanakosin Island canals, Prem Prachakorn Canal, and Saen Saep Canal, with 75 monks representing each water route. To support this massive cultural gathering, the BMA is implementing strict safety protocols, meticulously planning the maritime sequence of the clerical boat processions, installing temporary waterfront platforms to accommodate the public, and deploying continuous situational monitoring teams to ensure the entire event proceeds with the highest levels of safety and administrative precision.
