On August 3, 2026, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, disclosed the fiscal year 2027 draft budget framework totaling 93 billion baht, structured as a balanced budget with a projected revenue growth of 1 billion baht over the previous year. Under the total city budget structure, BMA expects to collect 23 billion baht directly through local building and land taxes, while 70 billion baht will be collected and remitted by the central government via value-added tax and vehicle registration fees. Combined with approximately 29 billion baht in central government subsidies, BMA’s total financial resource management capacity will reach roughly 122 billion baht for the upcoming fiscal cycle.
A significant financial commitment in this budget cycle involves a 6 billion baht allocation to service the BTS Green Line operations. Following Bangkok Metropolitan Council recommendations, this expenditure was integrated directly into the annual budgetary framework rather than relying on municipal reserve funds. The allocation comprises over 5 billion baht to offset the operational revenue shortfall for the extension routes, alongside interest payments owed to the Ministry of Finance for underlying infrastructure costs. Consequently, BMA’s remaining operational budget stands at 87 billion baht, reducing capital investment to 18 billion baht while strictly maintaining capillary-level district development at 6.6 billion baht to continue local community improvements and limiting new multi-year commitment projects to just 14 items.
External fiscal pressures also remain a critical concern, particularly the central government’s real estate transfer fee reduction, which is projected to decrease BMA revenue by nearly 5 billion baht and will require further inter-agency negotiations to secure compensation.
