On June 5, 2026, Mr. Thanit Tanbuaklee, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), conducted site inspections at the Saphan Sung and Din Daeng district offices to monitor preparations for the upcoming capital elections. The administrative review focused on ensuring logistical readiness for the simultaneous elections of the Governor of Bangkok and Members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 08.00 to 17.00 hrs. During the inspection, Mr. Thanit strongly reinforced the directive issued by the BMA Permanent Secretary, in his capacity as the Bangkok Local Election Director, demanding that all city officials maintain strict political neutrality to guarantee an honest, fair, and transparent electoral process.
A primary operational concern highlighted during the inspection is the potential discrepancy in voter eligibility between the two elections in certain areas. At specific polling stations, the number of citizens eligible to vote for the Governor may exceed those eligible to vote for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, presenting a critical challenge for ballot distribution. Mr. Thanit instructed district administrators and polling staff to carefully verify voter entitlements before handing out ballots, as any mismatch could compromise ballot management and subsequent vote counting. To further safeguard the election against unpredictable weather, district offices have already begun moving vulnerable, tent-based polling stations into permanent buildings to ensure public convenience during the current rainy season.
Beyond immediate polling logistics, the Deputy Permanent Secretary expressed strict concern over civil registration security. He ordered thorough verification protocols for high-risk registration areas—including international marriages, foreign document certifications, foreign birth notifications, and migrant worker registrations—to prevent illegal voter entry and maintain data integrity. While current voter lists show no irregularities, citizens are highly encouraged to verify their household registration data through official channels, including the Department of Provincial Administration website, the Election Commission’s verification systems, or direct district office portals to resolve any registration issues swiftly.
