BMA Mobilizes Resources for Royal Cremation, Election Security, and Ebola Surveillance

On June 4, 2026, Mr. Narong Ruengsri, Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), chaired the year’s sixth executive meeting at Bangkok City Hall to streamline major civic and health directives. The high-level assembly synchronized efforts across multiple capital agencies to address three pressing national and local priorities. First, the BMA finalized operational preparations for the upcoming Royal Cremation Ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. Mr. Narong stressed the urgency of disseminating logistical information to the public, including detailed ceremony maps, shuttle bus routes, traffic closure schedules, first-aid stations, and the locations of sandalwood flower-offering pavilions to ensure a respectful and flawless event.

The executive body also reviewed critical administrative measures for the elections of the Governor of Bangkok and Members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council scheduled for June 28, 2026. The Permanent Secretary strictly reminded all civil servants to maintain absolute political neutrality. Furthermore, district offices were directed to launch public awareness campaigns targeting relocated polling stations, ensuring that voters accustomed to prior voting locations face no confusion. Because the election coincides with the monsoon season, special emphasis was placed on securing the structural integrity of outdoor tents, implementing robust drainage solutions to prevent localized flooding, and mapping out contingency protocols to guarantee uninterrupted voter access.

Finally, the BMA’s Health Department and Medical Service Department unveiled proactive public health strategies to guard against an international Ebola outbreak. Operating in tandem with the Ministry of Public Health, the BMA has deployed Modernized Event-Based Surveillance (M-EBS) to rigorously screen and track travelers arriving from high-risk zones. Capital hospitals and local health centers have been placed on high alert to isolate suspected cases, while public communication channels are actively distributing preventative guidelines to fortify community-wide disease surveillance and maintain public safety.
