BMA Joins National Climate Committee Meeting to Drive Paris Agreement Strategies Ahead of COP 31

On May 21, 2026, Dr. Lertluck Leelaruangsang, the Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), participated in the second National Climate Change Policy Committee meeting of the year at Government House. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri and centered on the endorsement of the draft framework for Thailand’s climate change negotiating position for the years 2026–2027. This framework is intended to serve as the principal operational directive for Thai delegates at forthcoming global summits, specifically COP 31 and COP 32.

The strategy delineates critical negotiation topics, including funding mechanisms, agricultural adaptation, food security, and international cooperation as specified under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Additionally, the committee assessed guidelines for the Thailand Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Hub, a pilot project aimed at developing carbon capture and storage technology in the upper Gulf of Thailand to facilitate long-term decarbonization efforts. Upon approval of the draft, the committee instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to present it to the Cabinet. Through these collaborative initiatives, the BMA and its national partners aspire to expedite legislative enhancements and implement supportive measures essential for guiding the nation toward its ambitious Net Zero Emissions target by 2050.
