On February 19, 2026, Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, officially unveiled the “BAC Passport Winter Edition 2026: Winter Tale” at River City Bangkok, signaling a bold expansion of the capital’s creative landscape. This initiative signifies an ambitious expansion of the capital’s creative landscape. The current edition, the fourth in a series that began with merely ten participating galleries, has now expanded to include 27 art and cultural institutions throughout the city. During the unveiling, Mr. Sanon praised the resilience of Bangkok’s creative community, noting that the city’s post-pandemic cultural revival is a testament to the collaboration between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and local artists. He articulated a visionary objective to expand the project to encompass 100 galleries in the future, underscoring the BMA’s commitment to integrating contemporary art into the fabric of urban life.
Running from February 21 to May 31, 2026, the BAC Passport serves a dual purpose as both a strategic “Art Travel Guide” and a personal journal for enthusiasts to document their journey. The 2026 edition features a restructured set of Art Routes that use the Chao Phraya River as a central axis, connecting the city’s diverse districts. These routes are divided into the Heritage Quarter (Old Town), Urban Quarter (City District), Upstream (North), and Downstream (South). A standout feature of this edition is the “Original Remake” activity, which invites passport holders to delve into “Invisible Fragments” of specially selected paintings. This curated experience features contributions from four esteemed artists: Professor Tinnakorn Kasornsuwan, Konthorn Taecholarn (Hongtae), Patiphan Charoensuk, and Chairat Mongkolnat, adding a unique layer of discovery to the exploration of Bangkok’s creative spaces.
The project emphasizes accessibility, with passports available at seven key cultural hubs, namely Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Gallery, Chulalongkorn University Museum, Bangkok City Library, River City Bangkok, Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, Asvin Cultural and Contemporary Art Space, and Numthong Art Space. By interlinking museums, bookstores, and historic neighborhoods into a cohesive narrative, the BAC Passport aims to strengthen the bond between residents and the city’s evolving heritage. As Bangkok continues to position itself as a major center for contemporary art, this collaboration between Bangkok Art City and the BMA ensures that the city remains a vibrant, ever-changing canvas for all to enjoy.
