The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has signed the Pledge on Environmental Performance and Sustainability. Together with 15 embassies and UNESCAP, the BMA has turned ideas into action to advance Bangkok as a model of environmental and sustainable collaboration among capital cities.

On November 18, 2025, at 08:30 a.m., Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, together with ambassadors and representatives from 15 embassies and UNESCAP, signed the Pledge on Environmental Performance and Sustainability between the BMA, diplomatic missions, and international institutions under the Eco-Capitals Forum 2025 at the Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives. Following the signing ceremony, the signatories jointly planted Monkey Flower Trees (Pradoo Daeng) at Wachirabenchathat Park (Rot Fai Park).

Governor Chadchart stated that the BMA has developed “15-minute parks” to ensure residents can easily access nature, relaxation, and opportunities for exercise. More than 2 million trees have been planted across Bangkok to expand green spaces and help filter dust. In addition, the BMA has launched the BKK Waste Pay project, which improves waste collection efficiency by focusing on reusing and recycling waste, reducing resource consumption, and mitigating health impacts on the public. These initiatives reflect the BMA’s commitment to the sustainable use of natural resources.

Today’s signing ceremony is not only a symbol of collaboration but also demonstrates a shared commitment to turning ideas into tangible outcomes. It highlights ongoing efforts to make Bangkok a model of environmental and sustainable collaboration among capital cities worldwide.

The signing of the Pledge under the Eco-Capitals Forum aims to foster collaboration in making Bangkok a livable city for all. The Eco-Capitals Forum promotes proactive environmental cooperation between the BMA, embassies, and international organizations in Thailand through the implementation of each embassy’s and UNESCAP’s Environmental Action Plan under the pledge’s eight frameworks. These frameworks include: 1. Promoting solid waste management, 2. Transportation, 3. Green urban environment and adaptation, 4. Energy conservation and alternative energy sources, 5. Air, 6. Water, 7. Food, and 8. Management and green economy. They have been developed to align with the BMA’s environmental policies and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The embassies and international organizations that participated in signing the pledge include the Australian Embassy, the Austrian Embassy, the Embassy of Canada, the Royal Danish Embassy, the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand, the Embassy of Finland, the French Embassy, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Embassy of Italy, the Embassy of Japan, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Royal Norwegian Embassy, the Embassy of Sweden, the Embassy of Switzerland, the British Embassy, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

The signing ceremony was honored by the presence of the Danish Ambassador, the Swiss Ambassador, the UNESCAP Executive Secretary, and the Governor of Bangkok, who delivered opening remarks. Subsequently, the Governor, together with ambassadors and representatives from all 15 embassies and the UNESCAP Executive Secretary, jointly signed the Pledge. Following the ceremony, the signatories planted 17 Monkey Flower Trees (Pradoo Daeng) at Wachirabenchathat Park (Rot Fai Park) to symbolize the launch of the Eco-Capitals Forum 2025 and to demonstrate environmental cooperation.\
