Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, ordered to urgently solve the water problem at Lumpini Park and rushed to add water to increase oxygen in the pond after the DO value in the water was lower than standard.

The pond in Lumpini Park has had a foul odor and foam for about 3 weeks, it is believed to be due to the lack of rain which normally rains at least once a month. In addition, the groundwater well has been broken for more than 3 months (currently being repaired), causing the water level in the pond to drop a lot, along with old, dead algae that cling to mucus, causing poor water quality, low oxygen, and problems adding oxygen to the water. On the evening of April 16, 2024, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, went to Lumpini Park to inspect the said problem.

The Director of the Drainage Bureau explained that additional water had to be brought in. Yesterday (April 17, 2024), there was a process of bringing water into Khlong Phai Singto at 4000 cubic meter per day to hold and aerate the water at 5 milligrams per liter (mg/L) and then release the water into the main pond. The pond along Rama 4 Road will use water from Sathorn Canal and the water quality control plant continuously every day and bring in 4 additional JET AERATOR underwater aerators.

Officials measured DO (Dissolved oxygen) at 0.8 milligrams per liter (mg/L), which is below the standard. The DO value will be controlled at 2 milligrams per liter (mg/L) or more and the DO value will be measured again.

Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, ordered the urgent resolution of the issue and assigned the Drainage Bureau to find additional oxygen generators. Although Lumpini Park is maintained by the Parks Office and Bangkok Environment Office, but with insufficient power to solve this problem. Therefore, we must join forces with the Department of Drainage to ensure further sustainability, including planning improvements to cover other issues such as water quality bathrooms, etc.
