Announcement of dangerous area! A factory in the Bang Suea area stores cadmium, which requires urgent health inspections of people in the surrounding area.

Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, along with relevant officials went to the area following the discovery of cadmium waste chemicals within Thai Metal Co., Ltd.

Initially, 98 bags of chemicals with a weight of 150 tons were found. At this time, the Bang Sue District Office has declared it a danger zone and it is prohibited to live or conduct business in the designated area because it is a serious and life-threatening chemical. Bangkok has organized a chemical and hazardous substance emergency response team together with the Department of Industrial Works and the Department of Health.

Mr. Chadchart said thank you to the Ministry of Industry for the discussion last Saturday and Sunday. Because of concerns from the cadmium incident in Samut Sakhon, we talked with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and the Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works. They said 154 metal coating plants and 98 metal smelting plants were inspected. They ordered a full inspection.

Today’s inspection point is an old material storage area, which has issued an order to urgently inspect additional areas of the old material storage area. Bang Sue District has 4 factories. There are 3 factories with consecutive licenses. Another factory at Prachachuen inspected and found nothing. The first step is to try to search and thank the police for their in-depth search until they found it, even though it was not easy to find because it may have been hidden. What needs to be done immediately is to declare a disaster area together with the Department of Disease Control to speed up health checks of all people in the area.
