BMA assesses people with disabilities for jobs in City Hall
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) held its first-ever recruitment test for people with disabilities on Saturday.
The test held at Suan Dusit University is in line with Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt’s policy to promote equality and provide employment for people with handicaps.
This policy is also in compliance with Section 33 of the 2007 Persons with Disabilities Empowerment Act, BMA said.
After overseeing the test session, deputy Bangkok governor Tavida Kamolvej said BMA has already hired several people with disabilities.
She said taking into account the problems handicapped people face, the BMA has identified four jobs that will be most suitable. They are finance and accounting officers, administrative officers, general managers and supply analysts.
“This opportunity will help unleash their potential,” she said.
She also thanked Suan Dusit University for deploying officials to take care of the people taking tests. “These officials have the expertise in taking care of people with disabilities, such as providing hearing aid and computers in the exam,” she said, adding that the invigilators also understand the nature of disabled people well.
Citing Chadchart’s policy, she said everybody should be given equal employment opportunities.
“They may have disabilities, but they also live in Bangkok and our job is to improve everybody’s quality of life,” she said.
“This exam does not just offer disabled people opportunities, but also helps the BMA understand all groups of people in society.”
She added that apart from giving employment opportunities, the BMA also hopes to improve services for the handicapped.
“The BMA needs to also create awareness among officials to maximise efficiency at work,” she added.
Competing for 11 positions were some 585 people, of whom 314 suffer mobility problems, 314 have impaired hearing, 51 impaired sight, 39 suffer autistic disorders, 15 suffer mental problems, nine suffer intellect deficiencies and five face learning problems.
The results of the test will be announced on March 31 at http://ksb.bangkok.go.th.
