On July 2, 2026, Mr. Taiwhut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), personally led site inspections of venue readiness and passenger piers along Khlong Saen Saep near Wat Borom Niwas Ratchaworawihan in Pathum Wan District. These comprehensive field evaluations were conducted to prepare for the grand upcoming festival, “The River of Life Under His Majesty’s Benevolence: Continuing the Rattanakosin Tradition,” which will be held from July 24–26, 2026, at Pom Mahakan Public Park in Phra Nakhon District. Organized by the Phra Nakhon District Office in partnership with multi-sectoral networks, the high-profile celebration is dedicated to honoring His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of his 74th birthday. To ensure the operations match the highest standards of royal prestige, Mr. Taiwhut directed all responsible municipal departments to expedite full system integrations covering robust public safety protocols, rigorous code enforcement, extensive aesthetic landscaping, and streamlined crowd-control facilities.
Beyond its cultural importance, this three-day festival serves as a critical nexus for city tourism, waterway transport, and historical preservation by linking Bangkok’s iconic Rattanakosin Island canal network, including Khlong Bang Lamphu, Khlong Ong Ang, Khlong Lod, Khlong Prem Prachakorn, Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem, Khlong Maha Nak, and Khlong Saen Saep. A diverse lineup of activities is scheduled, including traditional almsgiving on the water, celebratory screenings of the “River of Life” royal documentary and short-film series, and grassroots economic stimulus through the Khlong Ong Ang and Trok Sake walking streets. Philanthropic and community welfare initiatives will also run concurrently, such as royal-charity blood drives, urban forestry tree-planting initiatives, and free veterinary services providing sterilization, vaccination, and microchipping for local pets. Ultimately, the BMA envisions this event as a powerful reflection of cross-sector solidarity that will meaningfully improve the quality of life for canal-side residents and vulnerable homeless populations alike.
