On June 11, 2026, Ms. Kanokwan Siamlim, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), attended the first decentralization committee meeting of the year at Government House in Dusit District. Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri, the session convened senior executives from across the country to review local administrative strategies. The committee formally evaluated the performance report for the 2025 fiscal year, focusing on legislative frameworks that empower local authorities to manage public services with higher convenience, speed, and overall administrative efficiency.
A critical focus of the inter-agency meeting was Thailand’s comprehensive response to its rapidly aging society. Delegates examined holistic healthcare strategies alongside the ongoing transfer of medical responsibilities to municipal governments. In particular, the committee tracked the latest progress regarding the devolution of the Queen Nawaminthrachini 60th Birthday Anniversary Commemorative Health Centers and various Sub-district Health Promotion Hospitals to local administrative organizations. This structural shift is viewed as a foundational pillar for upgrading the nation’s primary healthcare network and ensuring localized medical access for aging urban populations.
In addition to health services, the committee mapped out updated budget management policies for essential public infrastructure. Discussions prioritized the equitable allocation of general subsidies specifically designated for the maintenance and long-term upkeep of local highways. The Deputy Permanent Secretary’s participation highlights the BMA’s active role in shaping national decentralization policies, ensuring that the capital retains the robust funding and expanded regulatory authority necessary to manage its local roads and municipal infrastructure effectively while maintaining seamless public service delivery for all Bangkok residents.
