BMA Reaches Over 80 Percent Readiness for Joint Canal Event with Pathum Thani and Ayutthaya to Honor Her Majesty the Queen

On June 9, 2026, Mr. Taiwhut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), attended a key progress-monitoring meeting for the upcoming “Thai People, Klong Prem, One Waterway” event. Chaired by Major General Prin Ruenpakwut, Royal Secretary for Royal Projects, at the Enco Terminal in Don Mueang District, the meeting aligned preparations across BMA departments, regional authorities, and private entities. Scheduled for June 14, 2026, along the Prem Prachakon Canal, the collaborative event honors Her Majesty Queen Suthida on her fourth-cycle birthday anniversary, fostering inter-provincial ties between Bangkok, Pathum Thani, and Ayutthaya.

The BMA reported that landscape and area developments along the canal are over 80 percent complete, encompassing upgraded walkways, boat landings, lighting, and canal-side community cleanups. The main venue at the Don Mueang District Office features a central stage, exhibitions from 24 agencies, and 48 community stalls selling regional and affordable products to stimulate the local economy. Comprehensive public services will be available, including mobile medical units, dental services, legal aid, pet vaccinations, and free motorcycle oil changes. To manage the high expected attendance, authorities have secured six parking zones and deployed traffic staff, while the BMA Fire and Rescue Department will station security and escort boats along the waterway.

Major General Prin confirmed that royal permission has been granted, with the Prime Minister scheduled to preside over the ceremony and inspect the priority canal development project. Festivities on June 14 will begin with a morning merit-making ceremony featuring 98 monks traveling by boat, followed by a mass alms-giving. The afternoon itinerary includes a large-scale tree-planting initiative, youth performances, community welfare equipment distribution, and a floating market of antique boats. The historic celebration will culminate in a unified evening candle-lighting ceremony to offer blessings to Her Majesty the Queen.
