On June 5, 2026, Dr. Lertluck Leelaruangsang, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), attended the opening ceremony of Thailand’s World Environment Day 2026 national assembly. Presided over by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Mr. Suchart Chomklin, the convention was hosted at the Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre Chaeng Watthana in Laksi District. Organized by the Department of Climate Change and Environment, the summit operated under the framework “Global Call for Climate Action: Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The main objective was to accelerate cross-sector mobilization against the global boiling crisis, which is driving an unprecedented frequency of extreme weather disasters. The initiative aligns with Thailand’s binding environmental pledges to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 47 percent by 2035 and reaches absolute Net Zero emissions by 2050.
The convention’s morning sessions featured keynote policy declarations from Minister Suchart alongside Ms. Dechen Tsering, Regional Director for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Asia Pacific Office. A sequence of TED-style presentations followed, detailing critical green innovations such as the operational mechanics of Thailand’s pending Climate Change Act, survival strategies for the impending Super El Niño, carbon capture advancements for national businesses, and the socioeconomic integration of community forests into carbon credit trading markets. Additionally, experts showcased how municipal administrations can overhaul local disaster management protocols utilizing real-time Digital Twin simulation modeling.
The afternoon layout prioritized highly targeted panel discussions focused on practical climate resilience. Stakeholders debated localized mitigation frameworks covering agricultural drought adaptation, neighborhood-led low-carbon tourism models, and eco-resilient residential architectural blueprints. The summit concluded with a dedicated youth forum highlighting grassroots environmental initiatives led by younger generations, alongside diverse educational exhibitions and technological showcases managed by public-private network partners.
