On May 31, 2026, Mr. Narong Ruengsri, Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), presided over a formal ceremony at Lumphini Park to present an artificial lotus flower arrangement to the “Phra Sri Maha Bodhi Thasamarachabopit” tree. Held at the auspicious time of 08.39 hrs. in Pathum Wan District, the ceremony served as a traditional Buddhist offering for Visakha Bucha Day 2026, aimed at bringing peace and prosperity to the nation. The event was attended by BMA executives and representatives from various public agencies, aligning with nationwide ceremonies coordinated simultaneously by the Ministry of Interior.
The religious tribute stems from a royal gesture by His Majesty the King, who granted permission for provincial governors across Thailand to present lotus offerings to these specific trees. The sacred Bodhi trees were originally distributed by royal grace to commemorate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s birthday anniversary on May 11, 2025, marking the milestone of reaching the same age as King Rama I, the founder of the Chakri Dynasty. In the capital, the historic tree was planted during the 2025 Visakha Bucha Day celebrations by the former Permanent Secretary for the BMA, Dr. Wantanee Wattana, to anchor blessings for Bangkok’s residents.
As a living symbol of the Lord Buddha’s enlightenment, the “Phra Sri Maha Bodhi Thasamarachabopit” tree represents long-term national stability and spiritual unity. By participating in this synchronized national tribute, the BMA highlighted its commitment to preserving fine Thai cultural traditions and upholding Buddhism. The shrine at Lumphini Park continues to stand as a vital focal point for local Buddhists to gather, reflect, and pay their respects during major holy days.
