BMA Celebrates International Jazz Day 2026 with Vibrant “In the Key of Peace” Concert at Lumphini Park

Governor Chadchart Sittipunt presided over the lively opening of “International Jazz Day 2026: In the Key of Peace” on May 3, 2026, at Lumphini Hall, drawing an enthusiastic crowd that filled the venue. Organized through a partnership between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok, and C asean, the event celebrated the global significance of jazz as a medium for unity and cultural exchange. The atmosphere at Lumphini Park was electric, with many attendees standing to enjoy the performances after seating reached its limit, highlighting the city’s deep appreciation for the genre. This annual celebration honors UNESCO’s 2011 declaration of April 30th as International Jazz Day, a day dedicated to utilizing music as a diplomatic tool to break down social barriers and promote harmony across diverse communities.

During the ceremony, Governor Chadchart expressed his gratitude to UNESCO and the contributing artists for using music as a bridge for dialogue between cities. The event featured a distinguished lineup, including the Horwang School Big Band, the Bangkok Big Band, and renowned performers Koh Mr. Saxman and Sax Pack Girl, who collectively brought the theme of peace to life through their music. High-level officials were in attendance to show their support, including Ms. Soohyun Kim, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok; Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Vice Chairman of C asean; and Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, alongside representatives from ten embassies. The gathering served as a powerful reminder of Bangkok’s role in the global cultural landscape, proving that jazz remains a vital force for bringing people together in the spirit of peace and mutual understanding.
