On April 3, 2026, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, hosted a high-level bipartisan delegation of United States congressional and government officials at the Amornpimarn Room, Bangkok City Hall. The visiting group included prominent legislative figures, such as Sarah Groh, Chief of Staff to Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA); Wendy Clerinx, Chief of Staff to Representative Jill Tokuda (D-HI); and Blake Nolan, Chief of Staff to Representative Vern Buchanan (R-FL). Also participating in the discussions were Daniel Clayton, Legislative Assistant to Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), and Adam Stasiewicz, Legislative Assistant to Representative Jefferson Shreve (R-IN). Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C., the delegation engaged in a deep-dive session regarding Bangkok’s transformative urban policies and the overarching strategic partnership between Thailand and the United States.
Governor Chadchart provided a comprehensive overview of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) multi-dimensional development strategy, covering environmental management, flood mitigation, transportation, and the complex challenge of homelessness. He emphasized a core philosophy that urban infrastructure must never overshadow human development. A focal point of the presentation was the success of the Traffy Fondue application, which the Governor highlighted as a prime example of a cost-effective, high-impact “Smart City” tool that empowers citizens to participate directly in solving urban issues. By shifting from a top-down approach to a participatory model, the BMA has been able to address grievances with unprecedented transparency and speed, a model that sparked significant interest among the US legislative staff.
The dialogue also touched upon the broader geopolitical and legislative landscape. Sarah Groh and her colleagues discussed ways to enhance the strategic importance of the Thai-US partnership through firsthand diplomatic experiences and the strengthening of networks between US legislators and Thai political figures. These discussions aimed to build a more nuanced understanding of regional challenges and foster long-term cooperation in local administration. This visit underscores Bangkok’s growing role as a hub for international policy exchange, proving that the challenges of a modern metropolis are best solved through shared innovation and global friendship.
