Sustaining 37 Years of Friendship: Bangkok Prepares 33rd Youth Delegation for Yachiyo Cultural Exchange

On March 27, 2026, Miss Aranya Pornchaiya, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), visited Wat Rat Niyom Tham (Phibun Songkhram) School to offer support to the 33rd delegation of Bangkok’s Youth Ambassadors. These 12 selected students are currently navigating an intensive training program in preparation for their upcoming departure to Yachiyo, Japan. This group of youth ambassadors has been selected to represent the city’s cultural identity and further solidify a friendship that has flourished for 37 years. During the visit, the Deputy Permanent Secretary observed their cultural rehearsals, praising the dedication of the students as they prepare to act as vital intermediaries between the two cities.

The relationship between Bangkok and Yachiyo City dates back to 1989, making it one of the BMA’s most enduring international partnerships. This 33rd delegation is tasked with carrying forward a long-standing legacy of mutual respect and cooperation. To ensure they are prepared for this responsibility, the BMA Education Department has implemented a comprehensive training curriculum. This program focuses on equipping the students with essential foreign language skills, a deep understanding of both Thai and Japanese customs, and professional personality development to help them serve as effective representatives of the capital on the international stage.

Beyond the cultural showcase, the program is designed to broaden the horizons of students from BMA-affiliated schools and foster their growth into global citizens. Deputy Permanent Secretary Aranya expressed her hope that the experience of learning about the lifestyles and traditions in Yachiyo will provide these young leaders with fresh perspectives. By immersing themselves in a different cultural environment, the delegates are expected to gain valuable insights that will contribute to their personal development and the future progress of Bangkok. Supported by senior officials from the Education Department and local school administrators, the 33rd delegation stands ready to uphold the friendly ties that have defined this municipal cooperation for nearly four decades.
