On February 17, 2026, Mr. Wisanu Subsompon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, led a media inspection and unveiled the progress of the “Green Bridge” renovation, a 1.6-kilometer pedestrian and bicycle corridor connecting Lumphini and Benchakitti Parks. Guided by the concept “Revitalizing the City, Connecting Neighborhoods, Building the Future,” the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is transforming this 20-year-old structure into a modern, safe, and inclusive green infrastructure, with full completion expected by mid-2026.
The redevelopment focuses on five strategic dimensions to enhance urban living. First, Green Connectivity strengthens the existing structure while creating an “Urban Forest” to provide shade and reduce pollution. Second, the bridge adopts Universal Design principles, introducing elevators and specialized ramps to ensure accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities. Third, it serves as a Sport & Social Space, featuring 500 meters of impact-reducing surfaces for running and cycling, alongside new activity zones over major intersections. Fourth, Community Regeneration targets previous blind spots in areas like Soi Polo and Ruamrudee, converting dilapidated spaces into safe zones for grassroots economic activities. Finally, Safety and Smart Lighting upgrades include comprehensive CCTV coverage linked to the BMA control center, ensuring the path is secure from dawn until late at night.
As Bangkok was recently ranked the second-best city in Asia in the World’s Best Cities 2026 report, BMA Spokesman Aekvarunyoo Amrapala noted that this project is central to the city’s broader environmental goals. By linking the Green Bridge with the “15-Minute Parks” and “Planting a Million Trees” initiatives, the BMA aims to ensure all residents have access to green spaces. This revitalized landmark is set to become a model for citizen-centered urban development, fostering a more breathable, equitable, and sustainable Bangkok for all.
