On February 7, 2026, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, and H.E. Mr. Masato Otaka, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, officially inaugurated the “Lumphini Dog Park.” Located on the Wireless Road side of Lumphini Park, this new sanctuary marks the ninth dog park in the capital and serves as a centerpiece for the 70th anniversary of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Bangkok.
Governor Chadchart highlighted the project as a symbol of the enduring trust and collaboration between Thailand and Japan. He emphasized that as pets become central to modern family life, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is committed to expanding inclusive public spaces. “This park is another step in our mission to make Bangkok a livable city for all,” the Governor stated, noting that the space provides a safe environment for pets to exercise while offering owners a hub for community connection and relaxation.
The project involved a remarkable urban transformation, converting a former parking lot into a 2-rai (0.8-acre) Japanese-style oasis. Funded and constructed by the JCC and designed by Taisei (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the park was engineered to blend seamlessly with Lumphini Park’s iconic landscape. The renovation included technical upgrades to lighting and irrigation systems, alongside professional landscaping by expert arborists. In a move toward broader inclusivity, the BMA confirmed that the park is not limited to dogs, but cat lovers are also encouraged to bring their feline companions to enjoy the new green space.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including BMA Chief Sustainability Officer Pornphrom Vikitsreth and Pathum Wan District Director Norathep Chuphool, alongside several “four-legged celebrities.” By repurposing underutilized infrastructure into a vibrant community asset, the BMA and JCC have created a model for sustainable urban development that prioritizes the well-being of both citizens and their pets.
