On January 27, 2026, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officially inaugurated the “Interested Chinese Class @DONMUANG” initiative, marking a strategic advancement in the city’s educational development for the 2026 fiscal year. Presiding over the ceremony at Prachautid Jantabanusorn School, Mr. Taiwhut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the BMA, emphasized that the project is a vital component of a broader mission to equip students with essential global competencies. By focusing on the Chinese language, which is a key medium in modern international trade and social exchange, the BMA aims to provide learners with the tools necessary for effective communication, academic excellence, and future career competitiveness.
The program is a collaborative project between the BMA and the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute of Phranakhon Rajabhat University. This partnership is designed to move beyond traditional rote learning by fostering a systematic approach to language acquisition that prioritizes real-world application. According to the BMA’s strategic policy, the curriculum seeks to inspire enthusiasm among students, improve their cultural understanding, and help them maximize their academic potential through immersive activities. Mr. Taiwhut extended his gratitude to the partnering academic institutions and stakeholders for their role in bringing these educational policies to fruition.
Currently, the initiative is being implemented across five schools under the BMA’s jurisdiction within the Don Mueang District, namely Prachautid Jantabanusorn School, Wat Weluwanaram School, Bamrung Rawiwan Wittaya School, Wat Don Mueang School, and Prem Pracha School. A total of 585 students participated in the first phase of the program. The launch was attended by Prof. Dr. Hu Ying, Director of the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute, alongside the BMA executives and district officials. Together, these stakeholders are working to ensure that Bangkok’s youth are well-prepared to navigate and thrive in an increasingly interconnected global landscape.
