(March 6, 2025)—Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, presided over the 3/2025 Bangkok Metropolitan Administration department heads meeting at the Rattanakosin Room, Bangkok City Hall (Sao Chingcha), on Thursday.

The Fire and Rescue Department has reported on the plan for allocation, maintenance and information update on portable fire extinguishers in 50 districts across the capital.
According to the report, 37,590 extinguishers were procured in fiscal year 2023-2024, including 9,979 in 2023 and 27,611 in 2024. These extinguishers have already been allocated to 632 slum communities, 508 urban communities and 61 suburban communities.
The department has planned to procure 18,607 fire extinguishers in fiscal year 2025, and 17,987 in fiscal year 2026.
Under the department’s fire extinguisher management guidelines, chemical refill can be performed on extinguishers which are not damaged and have lifespan less than 12 years.
Two approaches are available for extinguishers with lifespan more than 12 years:
- To use such extinguishers, the department or private agencies should conduct safety test on them. Chemical refill can be performed on extinguishers that passed the test, otherwise they should be destroyed and sold.
- To sell extinguishers, district offices take photos of QR Code on extinguishers and send them to the Fire and Rescue Department for further action, while the City Planning and Urban Development should update information in the BKK Risk Map.
Meanwhile, there are 11,241 fire extinguishers that 50 district offices should update information in the geographic information system as of February 27, 2025.
Assoc. Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, has instructed district offices to inspect and update information of fire extinguishers to enhance efficiency in combating fires within communities across the capital.
