Love took center stage in Bang Rak, Bangkok’s district of romance, as couples gathered to officially tie the knot on Valentine’s Day. The highlight of the event? An LGBTQ+ couple becoming the first to receive the prestigious gold marriage certificate, marking a momentous step toward inclusivity in Thai society.

(February 14, 2025) – Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt presided over the “Love as Precious as a Gem” event at the Jewelry Trade Center (JTC) in Silom, where couples exchanged vows and secured their official marriage registration in a setting as glittering as their love stories. This year’s event embraced diverse love in all forms, as Bangkok continues to pave the way for equality in marriage registration.
“Starting a family through marriage is a beautiful beginning. Every couple is an essential part of the city’s fabric, helping to build a stronger and more progressive Bangkok. While marriage registration is available in every district, Bang Rak remains a special place for love, and this year, we are thrilled to embrace marriage equality. I wish all newlyweds happiness, success in life, good health, and everlasting love,” Governor Chadchart said.
As part of the celebration, Bang Rak District Office hosted a lucky draw, giving away 14 exclusive gold marriage certificates, symbolizing the enduring strength of love. The first lucky couple to receive this honor was Kritimook Nuchfueang (39), a state enterprise employee, and Rosakorn Buchakul (42), a private business owner, an LGBTQ+ couple who won on the third round of the draw after the first two winners were absent.
The event was made possible through the collaboration of Bang Rak District Office, the Bang Rak Cultural Council, Jewelry Trade Center, Central Group, Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, and the Federation of Thai Gem, Jewelry, and Precious Metals Associations, along with support from both government and private sector sponsors.
Couples who registered their marriage at the event received exclusive gifts and had a chance to win gold pendants, 55-inch smart TVs, luxury hotel stays, fine dining vouchers, and other special prizes.
The festivities began early in the morning, with a traditional Thai wedding procession and water-pouring ceremony held at 9:59 AM, blessing three selected couples in a cultural tribute to Thailand’s matrimonial traditions. The lucky couples receiving the gold marriage certificates were:
- Sub-Lt. Suphawit Siharath and Ms. Tipsuda Misong-on
- Ms. Kanrawee Santhat and Ms. Patcharavalee Thee-intoh
- Mr. Thanasiri Chomchuen and Sub-Lt. Theenawut Pichit
The event also featured live entertainment, prize giveaways, and special appearances by actors from Channel 3’s hit dramas Khun Phi Jao Kha, Mae Liang, and Phleng Phayak, who brought a touch of glamour and celebration to the day.
As one of the most sought-after locations for marriage registration, Bang Rak , which literally means “District of Love”, continues to be the city’s most romantic venue for tying the knot. Due to high demand, an online registration system was introduced, allowing 999 couples to pre-book their Valentine’s Day marriage registration slot between January 9 and February 12, 2025. On the day, 790 couples confirmed their attendance, with an additional 20 walk-in slots available per hour.
With its growing commitment to marriage equality and inclusivity, Bangkok’s Valentine’s Day marriage registration event is more than just a ceremony—it’s a symbol of a city evolving with love in all its forms.
