Introducing Bangkok’s 100th 15-minute park at “100th Ruamjai Park @ Laksi” to move forward in creating a green Bangkok according to the target of 10 sq m/person by 2030.

Mr. Pornphrom Vikitsreth, Advisor to the Governor of Bangkok and the first Chief Sustainability Officer of the BMA, and Mr. Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, BMA Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary to the Governor of Bangkok visited Bangkok’s 100th 15-minute park at “100th Park Ruamjai@ Lak Si”. This park has an area of 528 sq m. It is a small park located on Kamphaeng Phet Road 6, Soi 7, Intersection 2-1, Lak Si District. It is surrounded by more than 10 communities. Previously, it was a deteriorated area and a place for dumping large pieces of garbage and storing things of people living nearby and in an unattractive condition. Therefore, the area has been renovated into a 15-minute park to be a place for everyone to relax. It consists of a 100-meter exercise walkway around the park and relaxation seats made from recycled materials such as tree stumps. It includes a 10,000-watt solar cell light for a 15-minute park operation, which is one of the best environmental policies. Its objective is to create a green public space that citizens can access by walking within 15 minutes or approximately 800 meters from their residences by developing existing areas along with adding new areas under public-private partnerships. It is to create activity, recreation, and social spaces for people of all ages. The main idea is not to focus on the size of the area, but to focus on being easily accessible within 15 minutes. It also promotes environmental issues, such as planting trees to trap PM 2.5 dust, using trees as natural air purifiers, and absorbing water naturally. Currently, a 15-minute park aims to operate a total of 267 parks and has already opened 102 parks and is in the process of 165 parks. Bangkok has continuously accelerated the drive to increase green space in Bangkok, aiming to develop 500 parks (covering 1,500 sq m) in 15 minutes. Currently, Bangkok has approximately 7.86 sq m of green space/person. According to the World Health Organization standard, a city should have green space at a rate of 9 sq m/person. Bangkok aims to increase green space to 10 sq m./person by 2030.
