Bangkok notified the MEA to suspend construction of the manhole in the middle of Soi Lat Phrao 49, giving a deadline of 3 days to make a standard manhole cover and coordinating with relatives of the deceased to provide compensation.

 

Mr. Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, BMA Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary to the Governor of Bangkok, revealed that the Public Works Department has notified the Governor of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) in writing to suspend the construction of manholes and underground electrical conduits. Together with the Yellow Line construction project (Lat Phrao – Samrong section), which is where people were found falling into underground electrical conduit manholes and died in Soi Lat Phrao 49, Wang Thonglang District. From the inspection, it was found that damaged plywood was used to cover the pond improperly and that the pond cover had not been properly closed according to standards in several areas. It is necessary to inspect and manage the manhole covers in such projects to follow standards within 3 days of receiving this letter.

 

 The Metropolitan Electricity Authority must coordinate with the relatives of the deceased to compensate for damages due to work performed negligently, not by the construction manual for public utilities and the conditions in the permit letter. If no action is taken, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will request to suspend consideration of the next work permit of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority that applies for permission in the Bangkok area and will notify the Public Works Department of the results.
