Message from the Chairman of the BMA Annual Report 2023
Bangkok Metropolitan Council
In the past year, the Bangkok Metropolitan Council has worked diligently to address
problems in Bangkok that have not yet been solved efficiently, whether they are environmental,
public health, or educational issues. The Bangkok Metropolitan Council has thus operated proactively,
taking into account the goals of each agency and focusing on solving problems to meet the needs of
Bangkok people precisely. In this connection, the council organized meetings with major organizations,
especially those responsible for public services in Bangkok such as the Metropolitan Waterworks
Administration, Metropolitan Electricity Administration, the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and the
Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, to communicate public problems to these organizations
and to discuss solutions. This enabled the council to issue ordinances that are appropriate for the
operation of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). The Bangkok Metropolitan Council also
held seminars between its members and BMA executives, allowing them to exchange ideas about
the administration of Bangkok and coordination to strengthen good relations between both parties.
As a legislative body of the BMA, the Bangkok Metropolitan Council continued to monitor and
focus on Bangkok’s major problems. It established several ad hoc committees to study problems
related to the rail mass transit system, study approaches to replacing conventional motor vehicles
used by the BMA with electric vehicles, and carry out other tasks to make Bangkok a more pleasant
city to live in for everyone.
In addition, members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council proposed several motions with
respect to various issues. These motions included urging the transfer of road surface management
duties to the authority concerned after the construction of the rail mass transit project was
completed, repairing damaged roads, addressing problems concerning wastewater treatment
systems, approaches to providing feeder services, approaches to regulating delivery riders, solutions
to the problems related to delivery vehicles and installation of CCTV cameras in secluded areas,
to name but a few. The Bangkok Metropolitan Council and the BMA are committed to driving
different projects consistently and effectively to enhance the safety of public lives and properties.
In my capacity as Chairman of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, I would like to extend my
sincere thanks to all council members as well as the BMA’s personnel for their altruistic dedication
to the well-being of Bangkok residents. On behalf of both entities, I pledge our commitment to
working with resolution to improve the quality of life in Bangkok in all aspects.
Mr. Wirat Meenchainunt
Chairman of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council
