Bangkok is inviting interested individuals to submit their sports ground designs to a competition with combined prize money of 300,000 baht. Deadline for submission is March 31.
The competition is part of the city’s “Sports Grounds for All” campaign to build and develop one sports ground in each district and 180 targeted communities across the city, Deputy Bangkok governor Sanon Wangsrangboon told the press conference on Tuesday.
The campaign is also inviting the private sector and organisations to help continually improve and maintain sports grounds as places for sports, exercise, and recreational and creative activities for all members of the community, he added.
The city launched its competition to design two new sport grounds: a 2.3-rai facility for Baan Eua Arthon in Bueng Kum district and a 2.65-rai ground for the Rom Yen Community in Bang Khae.
The competition is being held in collaboration with the Association of Siamese Architects, the Thai Association of Landscape Architects, and private sponsors.
It is divided into two categories: Architects, and students and the general public.
For the architects category, contestants must form a group comprising at least one architect and one landscape architect.
Meanwhile the student and general public category has no limit on the educational level of contestants, either individually or as a group. Each submitted design must be accompanied by an explanation of the idea behind it and how its design concept can be adapted to other sports grounds in Bangkok.
Selection criteria, ranked by importance, in the architects category are:
1. Environmental friendliness and ease of maintenance
2. Design concept and substance
3. Safety and suitability for each age group, as well as universality of the design
For the student and general public category, criteria are ranked as follows:
1. Diversity and adaptability to other sports grounds
2. Design concept and substance
3. Environmental friendliness and ease of maintenance
The architects category offers a 120,000 baht cash prize for the winner and four prizes for honourable mentions of 20,000 baht each.
The winner in the students and general public category gets 60,000 baht, while four honourable mentions will receive 10,000 baht each. All prizes come with a certificate.
Interested individuals can submit their designs until April 18. Finalists will be announced on April 24. All finalist designs will be displayed at the “Architect ’23” fair from April 26-30 at Challenger Hall, Impact Muang Thong Thani, and afterward will be submitted to each of the community to choose. The city expects to begin constructing the two sports grounds based on the chosen designs around May this year.
