Turkish Ambassador to Thailand Serap Ersoy was welcomed by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt during her visit to City Hall on Wednesday.
They discussed enhancing cooperation between Bangkok and Ankara, which have been sister cities for 65 years. Chadchart then gave a key to the city and the book “Bangkok: Recipes and Stories from the Heart of Thailand” to the ambassador.
To celebrate their 65-year anniversary, Bangkok is planning a variety of activities, including a marathon, a Turkish food day, and a tree-planting ceremony, the governor said.
He and the ambassador discussed promoting tourism in Thailand with the help of Turkish Airlines. They also discussed the performance of Bangkok officials who joined Thailand’s search and rescue team following the earthquake in Turkey last month.
Chadchart said the city has learned from the incident and will use the experience for drafting disaster prevention and mitigation plans in case of an earthquake in Thailand.
Bangkok plans to hold an event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Ankara in October this year, the governor said.
