2,602 couples in Bangkok registered their marriages on Valentine’s Day, including 128 LGBTQ couples.
Known as the district of love, because “rak” means “love”, Bang Rak welcomed the most number of newlyweds — 640 couples — who made their love official on Valentine’s Day this year, Bangkok permanent secretary Khajit Chatchavanich said on Wednesday.
The 10 districts most popular among lovers to register their marriages were: Bang Rak (640 couples); Bang Khun Thian (104); Lat Krabang (92); Bang Khae (89); Bang Sue (84); Sai Mai (69); Chatuchak (59); Suan Luang (58); Minburi (53); while Khlong Sam Wa, Phra Khanong and Khan Na Yao were all tied at 51 couples each.
Watthana district office saw the least marriage registrations at 15 couples.
Sadly, 44 couples also signed their divorce papers on Tuesday.
Khajit added that the city on Tuesday accepted life partnership registrations from 128 LGBTQ couples; 105 couples showed up at Pom Prap Sattru Phai district office, 17 couples at Dusit and four at Bang Kho Laem.
