Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, officially presided over the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) 2026 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Exercise at the Bangkok Room, Bangkok City Hall in Din Daeng. The launch introduced a comprehensive emergency simulation initiative specifically tailored to handle large-scale flood crises triggered by unpredictable “rain bombs” and continuous heavy monsoons. During the Table-Top Exercise (TTX) session, Deputy Governor Tavida emphasized that despite the simulated classroom environment, all participating officials must analyze scenarios based strictly on actual physical terrain, taking note of real-world details such as exact street widths. Crucially, Deputy Governor Tavida underscored that these drills must go beyond merely identifying relevant organizations; they must guarantee that complex inter-agency communication processes function seamlessly and practically during a live field execution.
Organized by the BMA’s Fire and Rescue Department, the overarching 2026 exercise is a critical four-day integrated initiative scheduled on July 14, 15, 20, and 24. The curriculum progresses systematically through three distinct stages: table-top simulations (TTX), functional exercises (FEX), and full-scale operational deployments (FSX). This massive collaborative effort unites key stakeholders across the metropolis, bringing together representatives from all 50 district offices, various BMA departments, fire and rescue stations, utility providers, military personnel, neighboring provincial authorities, and disaster mitigation networks. By modernizing and unifying these forces, the BMA aims to significantly refine its incident command system, accelerate collective readiness, and enhance the absolute efficiency of real-world crisis responses. This preemptive strategy is designed to minimize casualties, safeguard public property, and ultimately elevate Bangkok’s long-term disaster resilience standards for the welfare of all citizens.
