BMA Partners with Arsom Silp and ThaiHealth to Launch Open House Showcasing Community-Based Learning

On June 19, 2026, Miss Aranya Pornchaiya, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), inaugurated the Open House titled “LEARN Without Static Movements: Community School”. Held at Wat Sai in Chom Thong District, this collaborative event between the Arsom Silp Institute of the Arts, the BMA’s Education Department, and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) welcomed educators and students from 12 schools nationwide. The initiative highlights the Community-Based Learning (CBL) approach, which connects schools, temples, and communities to drive experiential education. Expressing her personal delight as a native of the nearby Talat Phlu area, Miss Aranya emphasized the value of allowing students to directly engage with local commerce, history, and ancient architecture, particularly within historical venues like Wat Sai.

The primary objective of the open house is to establish a concrete model space for educational personnel, enabling them to witness CBL in practice and adapt these methodologies to their own school resources. This initiative builds upon the “Bowon Thonburi” project, active since March 2023, which promotes neighborhood well-being, physical activity, and physical literacy through field learning. To date, the project has engaged 10 schools across Thonburi, Chom Thong, Thung Khru, and Bang Khun Thian districts, creating six localized curricula. During the open house, over 60 participants engaged in hands-on exploration at three key learning sites, including history and market studies at Wat Sai, art and architectural analysis at Wat Nang Ratchaworawihan, and nature-focused studies at Khlong Phithayalongkorn School. The day concluded with a collaborative forum to exchange perspectives on expanding the CBL model, attended by senior representatives from ThaiHealth, Rung Arun School, the BMA’s Education Department, and executives from Chom Thong, Thung Khru, and Bang Khun Thian districts.
