Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, officially inaugurated the Bangkok Climate Action Week (BKKCAW) 2026 on May 7, 2026, introducing a bold strategic vision under the theme “We Define Our Destiny”. This initiative marks a pivotal shift in the city’s environmental policy, moving beyond traditional conservation toward a “New Economy” model that integrates climate resilience with economic growth. Addressing a diverse assembly of government officials, business leaders, and environmental influencers at the Talat Noi Museum, the Governor emphasized that the city’s future is not a matter of chance but a direct result of collective civic action. He highlighted Bangkok’s recent environmental successes as proof of this potential, noting that residents have already planted over 2.5 million trees and contributed to a significant 50% improvement in air quality and a 10% reduction in waste volume through proactive participation.
The 2026 campaign is designed to be an inclusive, cross-sectoral platform involving ten key industries, including energy, transportation, and public health. A major component of the program is the scheduled alignment with high-level global summits, such as those held by the World Bank and IMF in October, to showcase Asia’s dedication to a low-carbon, equitable economic transition. Key activities will include a Green Jobs Fair and the deployment of AI technology to analyze environmental data and streamline problem-solving. Mr. Leo Horn-Phathanothai, co-chair of the BKKCAW steering committee, reinforced this message by stating that building an economic system centered on human well-being and ecosystems is a daily choice for every citizen. By fostering a network of innovation and sustainable investment, the BMA aims to decentralize climate action across all districts, ensuring a just transition that empowers every individual to participate in shaping a resilient and prosperous urban future.
