Bangkok Leaders Launch “We Are OK” Campaign to Reassure Tourists Post-Earthquake

(March 30, 2025) —In a concerted effort to restore tourist confidence following the recent earthquake, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, alongside Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool and ambassadors from 30 foreign embassies, launched the “Bangkok, We are OK!” campaign on Sunday.

The initiative aims to reaffirm that the city has returned to normal operations and is safe for visitors. The campaign was launched at a concert held at Sala Bhirombhakdi in Lumpini Park, designed to project an image of resilience and stability.

Governor Chadchart emphasised the crucial role of foreign embassies in disseminating accurate information about the city’s condition. “The foreign community is vital, as they are our window to the world,” he said. “People perceive us through their embassies. If we are to build international confidence, the embassies play a crucial role in communicating that ‘Bangkok We are OK!’ This is particularly important given the initial images of collapsed buildings. We are working to reassure everyone that Bangkok is safe, while simultaneously addressing any necessary improvements.”

He urged residents and tourists to demonstrate solidarity by updating their social media profile pictures with the campaign’s message. “Life goes on,” Governor Chadchart declared. “We want to encourage everyone to show their support and build confidence by adopting this message. The situation in Bangkok has stabilised, and we need to project positive energy and reassurance.”

He highlighted the positive response from the ambassadors, emphasising the strong relationship between the city and the diplomatic community. “We must work together to build confidence. Many ambassadors have resided in Bangkok for a long time and are our trusted friends,” he added.

Governor Chadchart also acknowledged the ongoing support for those affected by the earthquake. “We are fully committed to supporting those who are suffering or facing difficulties, such as those unable to return to their buildings, or those who have lost loved ones. However, we must also project confidence and move forward,” he stated.
The “BANGKOK, We are OK! Concert” featured performances by the Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra (BMO), the Jelly Roll Jazz Club & The Stumblrs, and a band from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Music Division.

In addition to the Lumpini Park event, the BMA organised music performances at Benjakitti Park, Benchasiri Park, Santiphap Park, and Chatuchak Park, commencing at 4:30 PM. These events featured a diverse range of artists, including the Royal Thai Police Band, Chaoleng, Meeting Time (from the Bangkok Street Performer project), Sussy Baka, Ccalm, Crystal Crew, and A Little Bit.

The campaign encourages individuals to update their profile pictures via a dedicated website (https://greener.bangkok.go.th/bangkokweareok/) and to use the hashtags #BangkokWeareOK, #StrongerBangkok, and #AmazingThailand when sharing their images.

The collaborative effort between city officials, tourism authorities, and international diplomats underscores the importance of maintaining Bangkok’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.
