(March 25, 2025) – In a gesture marking 50 years of diplomatic relations, Bangkok and Mongolia are collaborating on the installation of the “Two Stallions” sculpture, symbolizing peaceful coexistence and cultural exchange.
The discussion took place at Bangkok City Hall on March 25, 2025, where Governor Chadchart Sittipunt welcomed Mongolian Ambassador Tumur Amarsanaar and First Secretary Galdanjants Batnasan.
The meeting focused on the planned installation of the “Two Stallions” sculpture, a gift from Mongolia to commemorate the milestone anniversary of diplomatic ties, which officially began on March 5, 1974.
The sculpture also serves to celebrate 25 years of sister city council relations between the Bangkok Metropolitan Council and the Ulaanbaatar City Council, and to reinforce the eight-year-long friendship between the two capital cities.
Governor Chadchart expressed his warm welcome and congratulations, while Ambassador Tumur highlighted the significance of the sculpture as a representation of cultural exchange and diplomatic friendship.
Designed by Mongolian artist Ochirbold Ayurzana, the “Two Stallions” sculpture is crafted from stainless steel, with each horse weighing one ton and measuring 2.8 meters in length, height, and 1.2 meters in width.
The artwork draws inspiration from the “Legend of Genghis Khan’s Two Horses,” a revered Mongolian folktale that embodies the nation’s cultural heritage and values. The story emphasizes the deep bond between humans and nature, loyalty, friendship, and freedom.
In Mongolian culture, horses are considered sacred, and the “Two Stallions” symbolize mutual understanding and the harmonious coexistence of the two nations’ cultures and traditions.
The 50-year relationship between Thailand and Mongolia has fostered cooperation across various sectors, including regional free trade within the Asia-Pacific, public health, pharmaceuticals, nursing, foreign affairs and diplomacy, economic and trade development, agriculture, and anti-human trafficking initiatives. This sculpture installation further strengthens the enduring bond between the two countries
