Bangkok raises the criteria for hawkers and street vendors and expects to start in May 2024.

Mr. Chatree Wattanakhajorn, Deputy Permanent Secretary of BMA, chaired the meeting to explain guidelines for developing food sanitation along Bangkok’s sidewalks in 55 trading areas permitted by 14 district offices at Bangkok City Hall (Giant Swing) Phra Nakhon District

The meeting considered (draft) an assessment form according to the guidelines for selling products in commercial areas of Bangkok (for municipal departments) to ensure orderliness of traders in concession points. In addition, people will get food on clean and safe sidewalks.

All 12 points are as follows:
1. Merchants and sales assistants must dress cleanly, and wear an apron, closed-toe shoes, a hat, or a hair net.
2. Stalls for displaying food or preparing food must be at least 60 centimeters high from the floor.
3. Merchants and sales assistants must wear identification cards on the left chest of their shirts at all times while selling.
4. Merchants must display a license to sell products in an easily visible stall at all times while selling.
5. The stall is set up according to the plan on the specified day and time.
6. Do not display stands, commercial equipment, and road surface products.
7. Do not place equipment, or merchandise beyond necessity or permanent sheds for trading or storing equipment.
8. Do not hang, tie, nail, or hook tarps, light bulbs, or anything else to trees, electric poles, and traffic signs.
9. Products are sold or distributed according to the type of products that are permitted.
10. Do not pour water, food scraps, grease, sewage, or garbage onto the ground or into public pipes or drains.
11. Provide containers for storing food scraps, and garbage, or provide a place to dispose of garbage.
12. The sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, and illegal products is prohibited.

Merchants who have not passed the 12-item assessment must first improve and correct the assessment form according to the guidelines for selling products in commercial areas of Bangkok. If the re-assessment is not performed or performed by the re-assessment form, relevant legal action will be taken. Initially, it is expected to begin using the said assessment form around May 2024.
