(April 18, 2024) On the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, Mr. Wirat Meenchainunt, Chairman of Bangkok Metropolitan Council, chaired the activity at the Irawat Pattana Building, Bangkok City Hall 2 (Din Daeng).

For activities at 9:00 a.m., members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, Bangkok executives, and honored guests attended the Buddhist ceremony. Then at 11:00 a.m., they attended an ater-pouring ceremony to ask for a blessing from senior Bangkok council members according to Thai tradition for the Songkran festival.

“On the occasion of this year’s Bangkok Council Day, I would like to confirm that we, the elected citizens of all 50 districts, are willing and determined to bring everyone’s problems to the Bangkok Council. It is to improve things in Bangkok. In the second year of holding this position, we will perform our duties with strength and patience and respond to the needs of our fellow citizens. As president of the Bangkok Council, I have seen the willingness of my fellow members to work together and consult together to solve problems for the benefit of the people of Bangkok,” he said.

The President of the Bangkok Council added that the anniversary of the founding of the Bangkok Council falls on April 16 every year. Every year, activities will be scheduled on the appropriate day because this month there will also be an ordinary Bangkok Council meeting. This year, the activity is scheduled for April 18, 2024, including making merit for the Songkran festival. In addition to the good fortune of the Bangkok Council and current officers, it is also considered an offering of merit to the Bangkok Council members and personnel who have worked together and who have passed away.

As for this year’s work plan, the Bangkok Council has adjusted its work plan by allowing the public to follow the work of the Bangkok Council through live broadcasts of every Bangkok Council meeting. It is for the public to know that various problems that have been complained about by the 50 Bangkok Metropolitan Council District Council members have been discussed in the Bangkok Council meetings and conveyed to the administration to alleviate the suffering of the people of Bangkok. In addition, the Bangkok Council has considered amending many Bangkok ordinances, such as Bangkok ordinances related to changing gasoline engines to EVs, increasing compensation for Bangkok personnel, and amending Bangkok administrative regulations to bring the authority and duties of Bangkok into line with the current situation. The Bangkok Council will also expand cooperation with ASEAN countries by creating an MOU to provide personnel and officials with the opportunity to travel and exchange knowledge and experiences for use in the development of Bangkok in the future.
