Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok attended the “MEA pillarless Sarasin Road in one night” event along with visiting the success of the project to change the aerial electrical cable system to underground electrical cables in the area of Sarasin Road at Lumpini Park, Pathumwan District.
Mr. Chadchart stated that we would like to thank the Metropolitan Electricity Authority for installing underground wires. This Sarasin Road is considered to be an example road for improving the landscape. People are asked to be patient and wait for a while because there are still many roads that are going to be completed, including Lang Suan Road, Charansanitwong Road, and Phetchaburi Road. If it’s finished, it will be as beautiful as Sarasin Road. The operation plan of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority to install underground power lines will be carried out in parallel with the sidewalk improvements that BMA is carrying out. So, if any road can carry underground electrical cables, we will. If any roads cannot install underground electrical cables, the aerial cables will be organized further. As for the vendors next to Lumpini Park, we can see that we have reorganized them by moving them to the corner of Sarasin Tad Road and Ratchadamri Road where they have all been prepared.
Project to change the aerial electrical cable system to underground electrical cables, Sarasin Road is a road connected to Ratchadamri Road. MEA has completed the entire underground power line project. After this, MEA continues to operate in the Lang Suan Road area for another 1.3 kilometers from the Ploenchit Road-Sarasin Road intersection. Electrical poles and wires are scheduled to be demolished in mid-2024. If completed, the underground electrical line will connect to Ploenchit Road, while Witthayu Road also plans to start the underground communication line project in 2024 before proceeding with the underground electrical line.
The overall plan for the MEA’s project is to replace aerial power lines with underground power lines. Currently, the total project distance is 313.5 kilometers. The goal is to complete construction within 2029. Currently, a total of 73.4 kilometers can be completed, covering important areas on various roads such as Silom Road, Sukhumvit Road, Phaholyothin Road, Phayathai Road, Rama 1 Road, Ratchadamri Road, Ratchawithi Road, Ratchaprarop Road, Sri Ayutthaya Road, Sawankhalok Road, Sathu Pradit Road and Sawang Arom Road. At the same time, there are 240.1 kilometers of projects in progress, such as the Rama 3 Project, Ratchadaphisek Project, Rama 4 Road Project, and construction projects along various MRT lines.
In addition, MEA has also used the dismantled electric poles in the project to improve and develop the mangrove ecosystem learning resource and create a line to prevent coastal erosion using MEA’s Model continuously to increase the accumulation of sediment behind the dam. As a result, mangrove seedlings and saplings, as well as various aquatic plants behind the protection line, are denser and provide an increased chance of survival for various aquatic animals and birds.
