Mr. Chatree Wattanakhajorn, Deputy Permanent Secretary of BMA, surveyed the area to follow up on the operations of the Bangkok Dog Control Center and Shelter (Prawet). At the meeting, the Health Department reported details of the center’s operations and various information. Currently, there is construction to improve the buildings and locations within the center to have a better environment and be more suitable for operations.
As for the Bangkok Dog Control Center and Shelter, there are 2 locations: the Bangkok Dog Control Center (Prawet) has an area of 13 rai and can accommodate approximately 1,000 dogs and approximately 300 cats. Currently, we care for 96 dogs and 87 cats (information as of February 2024).
In addition, there is a Bangkok Dog Control Center located in Uthai Thani Province which began operations in 2005. It has an area of 200 rai and can accommodate 6,400 dogs. Currently, 2,511 dogs are being cared for (information as of January 2024).
Bangkok asks for cooperation from those who want to raise dogs and cats to consider details and practices before raising them, including being responsible and vaccinating them within the specified period to prevent diseases that may occur in dogs and cats. At the same time, we invite people interested in raising dogs or cats to contact us to adopt dogs and cats from the Bangkok Dog Shelter and Control Center instead of buying new ones. At the center, there are many breeds of dogs and cats to choose from before adopting. It is to give stray dogs and cats in the Bangkok area a new home and reduce the number of stray dogs and cats in the Bangkok area.
