Dr. Wantanee Wattana, Permanent Secretary of BMA, chaired the activity “Campaign for a beautiful Chao Phraya River without trash” at the Tha Chang Pier – Tha Tien Pier area, Phra Nakhon District.
The Permanent Secretary of Bangkok said that the problem of garbage in the Chao Phraya River is not only a problem of the unattractive scenery but also a problem with water quality or obstructing water travel. It requires cooperation from all sectors to reduce waste in the Chao Phraya River by paying attention to waste management from the beginning by separating waste before disposal, disposing of waste in the correct type and time, not throwing garbage into public spaces, preventing garbage from flowing into the river, which will make the river clean and free of garbage, attractive to look at and promote tourism and recreation on the water. Water tourism on the Chao Phraya River is a popular activity among both Thai and foreign tourists around the world. We all need to help maintain the cleanliness of the Chao Phraya River, making it clean and attractive and able to continue to create benefits for trade, investment, and tourism. We want to thank Siam Cement Public Company Limited, the Marine Department, and various agencies that jointly organized this activity and also donated trash can stands for storing the garbage of tourists at Tha Chang Pier. It will be a model for expanding the results to various ports in the Bangkok area.
In addition, during the event, there was a discussion on the topic “Campaign for a beautiful Chao Phraya River without garbage” and a campaign to distribute garbage bags from Tha Chang Pier to Tha Tien Pier.
