More than 30 Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials attended a forum led by Japanese businesspeople on environmental, water resources, and traffic management on Tuesday.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt opened the forum on tackling Bangkok’s environmental issues at the Twin Towers Hotel in Pathum Wan district.
The forum was hosted by the BCG Business Committee of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce (JCC) to provide a platform for 18 Japanese companies to share their knowledge and expertise with officials from the BMA’s drainage, traffic and transport, health, and social development departments.
Topics addressed included wastewater management, air and soil pollution control, waste disposal and recycling, energy conservation, green policies, traffic management, and the use of multi-cleaner products to increase city officials’ efficiency in environmental operations.
The JCC in Bangkok is one of Japan’s largest foreign chambers of commerce, with 1,629 member companies.
According to the Department of International Trade Promotion, trade volume between Thailand and Japan in the five months of 2023 amounted to 813.14 billion baht, with 350.96 billion baht coming from exports, making Japan the kingdom’s third largest trade partner.
The BCG Business Committee is responsible for preparation of infrastructure for investment in the Bio-Circular-Green economy. The committee is shared by Takeo Kato, president of Mitsui & Co (Thailand) Ltd.
