A Thai publisher handed over children’s books it had received from Singapore, so they can be used to give Bangkok students an insight into foreign cultures.
The books were received by Bangkok deputy governor Sanon Wangsrangboon at the Bangkok City Library on Monday.
“Children’s books from Singapore, a country of rich cultural diversity, will help Thai children learn about life in neighbouring countries via interesting stories and illustrations,” he said.
He added that the books will be distributed to public and school libraries in city areas to ensure they have a wider reach.
The Thai publisher, Plan For Kids Ltd, received the books as part of an exchange programme with Singapore publishers at the Asian Festival of Children’s Content in 2021. The event was hosted by the Singapore Book Council online.
The Thai publisher said the festival featured several activities that promote reading habits among children, including illustration demonstrations by Thai artists, a seminar with publishers and directors of animated films adapted from books and a translation project.
The latter saw books that best represent each country being chosen for translation and publication in the other country.
