On March 4, 2026, Deputy Governor of Bangkok Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon presided over the certificate and award ceremony for the fourth “Eco-Friendly School: Waste Separation for Rewards with Mondelēz” (Trash Right Program) at Wat Nimmanoradi School. This initiative, a successful collaboration between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Mondelēz International (Thailand), and Trash Lucky Co., Ltd., celebrated Wat Khubon School as the top winner for outstanding recycling quality, followed by Wat Nimmanoradi and Wat Samakki Sutthawat schools. Deputy Governor Sanon highlighted that the program’s primary goal is to foster genuine behavioral change by integrating real-world urban challenges into the classroom, encouraging students to apply waste-sorting habits at both school and home.
The Deputy Governor provided a critical economic perspective, noting that the BMA currently spends over 7 billion baht annually on waste management, a massive expenditure that could be redirected toward improving education and public health if waste is reduced at the source. The project’s impact has been substantial since its 2022 launch, involving 32,519 students who collectively recycled 16,414 kilograms of waste over a four-year period. These efforts have successfully reduced carbon dioxide emissions by over 62 tons, a volume equivalent to thirteen Olympic-sized swimming pools. By making sustainability an engaging daily practice through educational games and creative performances using recycled materials, the BMA and its partners are training a new generation of “environmental heroes”. The ceremony, attended by key executives from the Education Department and private sector partners, reaffirmed a long-term commitment to raising environmental awareness and proves that empowering youth is essential to solving the city’s waste crisis and building a cleaner, more sustainable Bangkok for the future.
