The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) launched the “Bangkok Street Performer” project recently, marking out specific spots in the city for buskers the perform.
The project aims to boost the economy and promote culture by turning public areas across Bangkok into a stage.
The first sign of this was seen at the Sukhumvit MRT station and the skywalk near the Chong Nonsi BTS station, where two groups of musicians were playing 80’s hits and country music.
Buskers have until March 31 to register for a “BKK Street Performer ID”, which will be valid for a year and then use it to register for a spot at:
• Kamphaeng Phet MRT station
• Chatuchak Park MRT station
• Phra Ram 9 MRT station
• Sukhumvit MRT station
• Pathumwan Skywalk
• Sathon-Naradhiwas Skywalk
• IconSiam Skywalk
Passersby, meanwhile, can promote performers by posting their photos on social media under the #BKKstreetperformer #ศิลปินเปิดหมวก hashtags. Cash donations will also be welcome.
