Assoc. Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry visited Bang Sue District to follow up on a rehearsal of the management plan for transferring cadmium sludge back to the factory landfill in Tak Province on April 29, 2024.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry said that today is a trial transfer. For the actual transport, the factory doors will not be opened but will be carried out inside. Today is an opportunity for the media to see the guidelines and procedures.
Deputy Governor of Bangkok said Today is like a pilot. The team that comes to do the work is a team that has specific expertise in moving. The actual implementation tomorrow will involve closing the factory doors. Bangkok has a headquarters located at the entrance. A district director is in charge of seeing a picture of the management inside in case something happens. There will be a HAZMAT: Hazardous Materials team ready at all times in case of an emergency in the factory or nearby areas.
For today, before closing the factory doors, the weight will be calculated according to the loading standards that should be transported safely, the car cover will be sealed, and then the factory doors will be closed. Tomorrow, if as planned, this car will be vacuumed and the second car brought in for further processing.
In terms of preparing to take care of staff working to move within the factory due to the extremely hot weather, Bangkok has arranged a medical unit with emergency vehicles in the area that can assist quickly. Moving will take into account the following principles: 1. Operate with maximum safety, such as placing the weighing scale at a point that is not at the end of the crane’s range to reduce various risks, 2. Operate with greater efficiency and faster speed. 3. Operate with transparency. After all cadmium residue has been removed, the land, water, and air areas will be inspected again for safety.
