Bangkok shares policies for the LGBTQ group on the ASEAN stage, hoping to promote gender equality in all dimensions.

Assoc. Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, attended the workshop on “Promoting the Presence and Leadership of Women in National and Local Government Agencies in the Asia and Pacific Region.” It was held from 22 – 25 April 2024, with many countries participating, such as Brunei, Lao PDR, etc., to share experiences in implementing the Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions for the benefit of representatives from other countries participating at the Holiday Inn. Sukhumvit Hotel, Khlong Toei District.

She said society in Bangkok today is very open. Especially in the past two years, we can see that there has been a promotion of participation in LGBTQIA+ activities or other gender elements and dimensions. What we do and push for is to treat everyone equally, such as in terms of dress and other dimensions. In addition, hospitals under BMA have a Pride Clinic service that LGBTQ groups can use. Bangkok also has Pride Month activities.

As for the project evaluation results at Level 3, it may not be difficult. Even though Bangkok’s tourism is number one, in terms of being a livable city, Bangkok is ranked 98th. Therefore, to make our city a better place to rank, we have to look at what the indicators must be. Being able to work as intended can be difficult with a high workload and a lack of communication. It is something that needs to be improved and we hope to work on this well to a level where we don’t have to do it again. Regarding data, we have complete information but it is a large group of information that is not broken down into sections. It reflects the importance of collecting information to see where we have gaps. Even though we work hard, we do not put the data to full use. This is another important issue.

“Bangkok is working directly on gender equality, equality in policies in every sector so that people can have a good life. We hope that in the future it will be something that is normal for everyone and can be compatible with their way of life, economy, and society,” she said.
